UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR CITY PLANNING AND TRANSPORTATION
This updated document outlines City-wide standards that build a universally-designed and accessible community for residents, visitors and employees.
This checklist for building modifications is based on the 2010 Access Design Standards published by The City of Calgary’s Advisory Committee on Accessibility (ACA), with the assistance of Development & Building Approvals (DBA) and Community & Neighborhood Services (CNS).
The technical requirements within are derived from a number of sources including the National Building Code of Canada, CAN/CSA B651 Accessible design for the built environment, ISO/FDIS 21542 Building Construction – Accessibility and usability of the built environment and ISO 23599 – Assistive products for blind and vision-impaired persons – Tactile walking surface indicators.
